"Poetry is important. No less than science, it seeks a hold upon reality, and the closeness of its approach is the test of its success." Babette Deutsch
Memory Poem: Soaking in the luminous rays of the summer day
My body tingles
Thoughts run through the complex mind of an individual as the summer breeze flows gracefully through my nose
Taking in a scent so beautiful all you can do is smile
Passing my face, my body, my soul leaving a sense in which
All fear is condemned
Lacking the feeling of pain, my mind lights up
Opening doors in which were forever locked
At least that was the case before
The birds sit high in the tree speaking to each other at such graceful tones
The feeling of wood against my adventurous palms
I now reach higher lengths continuing to climb
Reaching the peak of my glory, I now observe the birds view
Finally understanding why they'd sing such beautiful songs
Breathtaking a view it is, taking one last breath
Tasting the summer's success, my mouth is now refreshed
And now i jump
Leaving the view, as reality comes closer and closer to my feet
I now have a continuous sense of the birds eye view
High up, higher up
And i will continue to climb Ode: I stand here lost in the thought of simplicity
Wondering why the world seems so empty
Empty but filled by such dull individuals
Unfortunately it seems creativity still dwindles
Dwindles in the mind of a common society
All I see is one category lacking variety
The horrible truth exposes the bond
A bond in which has became so fond
Fond of solitaire
Isolation
And
Fear
At this thought I begin to smile
Knowing there is no uniqueness in the farthest mile
I stand here unique with a common thought
A thought so complex
A thought that reflects you’re simple perplex
I stand here unique with a common thought
Not to be common
But beyond it
Sonnet: In summer in spring in autumn me
Consider me how we sit the hit he
Bit by venom spit thou substance so vile
Of such strength I handle it thou I am wild
Live in such isolation you would be a monster
Monster of such horror I break out tell her
Within you is the thou no man left is he
All ice cold dark thou fear is held within
Held within such a hideous monster graveled out
Thou surface exposed by truth the world shouts
Unknown within until unlocked french is FIN
End here not there is now of sound but silent
Within thou subdued of love temptation lacks part
Temptation is now violence without thou heart A little about my poetry: 1The topics that I choose to focus on are just thoughts within my head that are always floating around. I like to talk about things in a different and twisted way. Exposing things about myself that none of the world could tell from the outside. Usually I speak about myself, the part that everyone is confused about. The ugly side of me, the realistic side of me, the true side of me. I have began to go to poetry slams, and listening to many individuals expose their vulnerabilities on stage. Poetry seems like a new hobby of mines, one in which i will continue to carry out in the future.
I do not usually have rhyme schemes in my poems because they tend to come out truthfully when the words do not sound similar. The times in which I make my poems rhyme it is to entertain the audience, entertainment only. The true meaning of my poems come out when they are raw, and no rhyming at all. Poet: Charles Simic
Private Eye
To find clues where there are none,
That's my job now, I said to the
Dictionary on my desk. The world beyond
My window has grown illegible,
And so has the clock on the wall.
I may strike a match to orient myself
In the meantime, there's the heart
Stopping hush as the building
Empties, the elevators stop running,
The grains of dust stay put.
Hours of quiescent sleuthing
Before the Madonna with the mop
Shuffles down the long corridor
Trying doorknobs, turning mine.
That's just little old me sweating
In the customer's chair, I'll say.
Keep your nose out of it.
I'm not closing up till he breaks.
Paradise Motel
Millions were dead; everybody was innocent.
I stayed in my room. The President
Spoke of war as of a magic love potion.
My eyes were opened in astonishment.
In a mirror my face appeared to me
Like a twice-canceled postage stamp.
I lived well, but life was awful.
there were so many soldiers that day,
So many refugees crowding the roads.
Naturally, they all vanished
With a touch of the hand.
History licked the corners of its bloody mouth.
On the pay channel, a man and a woman
Were trading hungry kisses and tearing off
Each other's clothes while I looked on
With the sound off and the room dark
Except for the screen where the color
Had too much red in it, too much pink.
This Morning
Enter without knocking, hard-working ant.
I'm just sitting here mulling over
What to do this dark, overcast day?
It was a night of the radio turned down low,
Fitful sleep, vague, troubling dreams.
I woke up lovesick and confused.
I thought I heard Estella in the garden singing
And some bird answering her,
But it was the rain. Dark tree tops swaying
And whispering. "Come to me my desire,"
I said. And she came to me by and by,
Her breath smelling of mint, her tongue
Wetting my cheek, and then she vanished.
Slowly day came, a gray streak of daylight
To bathe my hands and face in.
Hours passed, and then you crawled
Under the door, and stopped before me.
You visit the same tailors the mourners do,
Mr. Ant. I like the silence between us,
The quiet--that holy state even the rain
Knows about. Listen to her begin to fall,
As if with eyes closed,
Muting each drop in her wild-beating heart
Analysis:
Private Eye- The line"to find clues where there are none", reveals that the individual searches deeply. Searches the areas that were not successfully exposed by past individuals. The line "the grains of dust stay put", reveals that during this moment all is calm. The atmosphere is filled with anticipation and all excitement has ceased. The line "I'm not closing up till he breaks", reveals that the individual is possibly a detective that has someone in custody.
Paradise Motel-
The line “I live well, but life was awful”, speaks of the man having a good life. He was a well rounded individual, but unfortunately living in a world that was filled with many bad things and hardships. The simple phrase of,”wrong place at the wrong time” comes to mind. The second line “with the sound off and room dark”, reveals that he isolates himself in a lifeless environment. An environment that is separated from the outside world. Here he can safely observe the horrors of the world through his window.
This Morning-The line "Fitful sleep, vague, troubling dreams ", reveals that the individual sleeps with hey content on his shoulders. All that bothers him, seems to affect him in his dreams also. The line "I woke up lovesick and confused", reveals that he is missing someone that he loves dearly.
